While diversely trained and experienced in many aspects of public and
worksite health promotion, Shannon is highly specialized in Communicable disease prevention and public health promotion.
At HPN, she works with leaders throughout the Pacific Northwest helping employers develop and implement strategies to achieve the inter-related goals of improved profitability through better health, use and quality of health care, productivity and benefit cost control.
She is also HPN's resident expert on communicable disease prevention and
control, as well as, disaster planning (e.g., bird flu, volcanic eruptions)
and is involved in related communications, training, online support,
e-learning and webcast support.
Prior to coming to HPN, Shannon worked as the Communicable Disease
Coordinator and Consultant for Deschutes County (Bend, OR). She was
responsible for representing disease prevention and awareness in
the general public, in the media, and among healthcare providers, as well as
analyzing local data, managing disease and outbreak investigations,
and consulting with agencies in developing disaster business continuity
plans.
She was trained and experienced in the Canadian public health care system,
primarily in Communicable Disease, and worked on a research team
or the University of Calgary prior to her work here in the United States.
Shannon received her Bachelors of Nursing from the University of
Calgary, Canada, and Masters of Public health from the Oregon Health
Sciences University, and will be graduating from the Public Health
Leadership Institute of Oregon this winter.
She also continues to maintain her frontline skills as a Certified
Emergency Nurse, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, and Communicable
Disease Consultant for Local Healthcare Agencies.
